Brand Strategy & Positioning

Deciding what you stand for and who you are against, so every later choice about message, design and channel has something to be judged by.

Aperçu

Positioning is a decision about the space you want to own in a buyer's head, and what you will give up to own it. If your positioning statement would also be true of your three closest competitors, you have a description rather than a position.

The work is mostly comparative. We look at how the category talks, find the ground nobody has taken that you can credibly hold, and write it down in a form that settles arguments later rather than starting them.

À qui cela s'adresse

  • Companies whose competitors all sound the same, including them
  • Businesses after a merger, a pivot or a new product line
  • Teams where every campaign restarts the argument about what to say
Ce qui est inclus

Notre approche de Brand Strategy & Positioning

Les travaux précis que couvre une mission type. Le périmètre est convenu d'avance : rien ici ne réapparaîtra plus tard comme une ligne surprise.

  • Category and competitor audit

What the market is already saying, mapped, so the space you choose is genuinely unoccupied rather than just unfamiliar to you.

  • Positioning statement

One paragraph: for whom, against what alternative, and on what basis. Short enough to remember and specific enough to be wrong.

  • Proof points

The evidence that makes the position believable. A claim you cannot substantiate is a liability, not a differentiator.

  • Messaging hierarchy

The primary message and the supporting ones, ordered by audience and stage, so sales and marketing say compatible things.

  • Brand architecture

How products, sub brands and acquisitions relate. Usually neglected until an acquisition forces the question badly.

  • Tone and language

How the brand sounds, with real examples and the words to avoid, so it survives a change of copywriter.

Déroulement

Du premier échange au résultat mesuré

Toujours la même séquence, pour que vous sachiez ce qui vient ensuite.

  1. Listen

Customer and prospect interviews plus a competitor language audit. Buyers describe the category differently from the people selling into it.

  2. Map

Plot where every player sits and where the credible open ground is. Some open ground is open for a good reason.

  3. Choose

A working session to pick the position, including what you are giving up. The tradeoff is the decision.

  4. Codify

Positioning, messaging and tone written down with examples, in a form a new hire can use in week one.

Pourquoi cela vaut la peine

Des résultats, pas des livrables

Un empilement de documents n'est pas un progrès. Voici les changements que le travail doit produire.

  • Arguments that end

A written position turns endless message debates into a quick check against an agreed decision.

  • Cheaper marketing

A distinct position needs less repetition to stick, which shows up directly in media efficiency.

  • Consistency across teams

Sales, support and marketing describing the same company, which buyers notice more than anyone expects.

  • A brief that briefs

Designers, agencies and writers get something to work against instead of a mood board and a hope.

Questions

Questions fréquentes sur Brand Strategy & Positioning

Ce qu'on nous demande avant de nous contacter. Si votre question n'y est pas, posez-la nous directement.

Is this the same as a rebrand?

No. Positioning is the strategic decision; a rebrand is one possible consequence. Plenty of positioning work concludes that the identity is fine and the message is the problem.

How long does brand positioning take?

Four to six weeks including customer interviews. The interviews are the part worth protecting when timelines get squeezed.

Can you do this without talking to our customers?

We would rather not. Positioning built only from internal opinion tends to describe how the company sees itself, which is reliably different from how buyers see it.

What do we get at the end?

A positioning statement, the competitive map behind it, a messaging hierarchy, tone guidance with examples, and the interview findings the whole thing rests on.
